Reflection

Reflection & Justification

Throughout the week in IT class, the task was to choose and sketch two different cover pages for my booklet about storage devices, I’ve chosen 2 storage devices (The DVD and USB), I honestly found it very easy to draw and create, I mostly enjoyed the drawing and coloring because I typically enjoy trying to design new covers or drawings etc.

Even though I enjoyed the drawing more, I’ve learnt new skills in the laptop in publisher, (adding color to backgrounds, layouts etc.) I used bold and bright colors but the most used color was a sky blue color because I thought it would represent storage devices well as blue is known for Technology. I thought this would be a good idea because it is simple yet fun and isn’t boring since I’ve used bullet points and not huge paragraphs, so I stuck to the target audience of Year 7 students.
After designing and sketching + coloring, I thought I could use a bit more boldness so I improved my sketch on the laptop and started to annotate (only on drawings), I only put key points on my drawings such as why it is bold and bright and colorful, which font I used etc. I thought my colors and fonts would really suit my target audience, so there wouldn’t be too much going on.

The colors I used to attract my target audience was a sky blue colour and a greenish or white colour for background, I had also added some black for a bit of pop and to make it stand out since black is a very noticeable and bold color. My image in the front cover is a laptop holding a sign saying “Storage Devices, I found this appropriate for my target audience because it is a cartoon and is very positive and happy/funny, so it isn’t so formal and boring. My font was big and bold enough to attract my target audience. (Year 7 students)

My final design chosen is design 2 because as I have mentioned before it is very happy and bright and attractive + appropriate for my target audience so it would be more appealing. My image is very appealing and fun to look at since I have thought being positive would help attract my younger target audience.

I then thought why not add something more, such as more pictures or more bold font, so I eventually decided to add the computer holding a sign saying the words “Storage Devices” in a big and appealing and eye-catching font. I was planning to improve by adding more pizazz and more color, which will encourage my target audience to visually look at my booklet because it is fun and represents my topic which is a technology subject (Storage Devices).

Storage Device Manual - Cover

Reflection:
I have officially chosen the front page cover for my booklet which would be the picture placed above, and honestly I’m proud even though it’s not the most complicated and colorful cover out there but I must say that if someone did a cover like this, i would be very attracted to it since it shows happiness, I like how simple it is and how the fonts and are all bubbly and big placed in a big cloud emphasizing that my topic includes some kind of technology. I could really improve more on color since the only color I used were different shades of blue and an outline of black.

Storage Devices- Cover Page Sketch 2

Reflection:
Doing this task, was not a big challenge as all I had to do was, draw, annotate and color. However I know that when I do this on desktop and publisher, the colors, fonts etc. will change to make it more attractive and eye-catching as i am not that impressed with my colors and design. I look forward to actually creating the real booklet design on Publisher based with the designs i have drawn. I honestly  don't know if i will change much, but if i do  i'll probably make it more attractive and be more pleased with my design or sketches.
To improve- i think that i should work more on time management as i was absent and didn't know what i had to do before Ms. Veena uploaded it on managebac so i was temporarily confused on the task, making me put the sketches later than the due date. Hopefully i'll improve on this next time.

Term 3- Storage Devices

Statement of Inquiry: Data storage has evolved through technological advances in the medium of storage devicesIntroduction:

A computer Storage Device is any type of hardware that stores data. Nearly all computer have a specific type of storage device which is most commonly known is the hard drive. The Hard drive stores the operating system, applications, files and folders for user's of the computer. While the hard drive is the most common storage device there are other several types such as Diskette Drive, magnetic tape, high capacity floppy disks, etc...

Fairness and Development
Democracy, politics, government and civil society • inequality, difference and inclusion • human capability and development; social entrepreneurs • rights, law, civic responsibility and the public sphere • justice, peace and conflict management • power and privilege • authority, security and freedom • imagining a hopeful future.
Fairness is the equality of being able to make judgment free of discrimination and development is the act of progress and growth. These two are related as as there can be no fairness without developing quality first. For example, as kids we were taught to be fair to one and another, but to gain this quality we were reminded by teachers, parents, adults and so on.
This affects us as in many schools, there has been a major problem currently, bullying. It is a very serious matter that many schools don’t seem to do to stop it and at least 3.2 million students have been a victim of some form of bullying.
Fairness technically and mostly affects the human behavior, but in the sources understanding around the world of nature and development of people’s fairness preferences are limited. It only captures situations where there is broad agreement that fairness requires equality, people often disagree on what is fair because they disagree on whether individual achievements and luck of what maximizes a lot of benefits on how can we justify inequalities. Studies have found out that as children enter adolescence, they increasingly view inequalities reflecting differences in individual achievements, but not luck, rather as fairness, whereas efficiency considerations mainly play a role in late adolescence.

Information literacy:
During this topic I will be using the skill of researching to find out more about storage devices for my booklet and will be making it for grade 7 during this term. The main website or research engine which I will be using will be Google or if needed Firefox so I can go to different websites according to what I search about. Websites I will try to exclude or ignore are Wikipedia, yahoo answers as they are not the best websites as it’s not trustworthy since we don’t know for a fact that the information on there is. As this is for the year 7’s I’m going to write using simple words and/or bullet points so the information could be easier to understand and not hard to read and question complicated words.

Communication
A tactic I will be using to attract the year 7’s to my work is colorful and bright colors such as yellow, red, green and so on, and make the display with affects such as glow or borders etc.+ using  pictures (but not too much as we still need information.) As I’ve said before I will be suing simple words and bullet points to prevent the year 7’s to question complicated words and bore them. My font will be bold, colorful and big with bright colors but simple and clear such as bubble writing or something with interesting enough to drag the year 7’s to my work.

Tech Fair- Week 1

Tech Fair- Week 1
Here are a few ideas that we have chosen to do for the tech fair:
First of all we wanted to do something related to art because we wanted to do something else than everybody else.
1.    Make a sculpture out of CD's
1.    Use computer keyboard pieces to create a sculpture
1.    Put CD's on a canvas
1.    Put computer keyboard pieces on a canvas
1.    Putting CD's and keyboard pieces on a canvas
We're  most interested in doing both CD's and keyboard pieces on a canvas idea because it's like nothing I have ever done before and it is original, simple and easy, but unique. Basically what we are going to do is make place the computer keyboard pieces and the CD's on the canvas .We made this idea totally by ourselves. This product benefits the society because instead of throwing away your computer pieces and CD's  you could recycle and reuse them that’s why we are making the computer pieces and CD's on a canvas in the shape of the recycle symbol.  You can  create this simple, quick and easy project.

Reflection:
I found out a lot of ideas for the tech fair, but we thought of our project ourselves and made up the name “Recycled Computer Art" came up which I directly started discussing with my partner. The keywords that I used in the search engine technology artwork, project, ideas, easy, DIY but I also used Pinterest which then gave me the idea for also using paint. When I was searching on Google for ideas, I didn't get immediate results because a lot of the websites were for a science fair there weren't many interesting ideas for a tech fair. I then tried to just write tech fair without the words 'easy', 'DIY' etc. However I still wasn't satisfied with my results and I found it really hard to take inspiration from those project ideas. I typed up tech fair ideas, fascinating and interesting projects started popping up and then art came up and that gave me the idea.
